Warranty - Steel Fire Tanks

Tankworld Tasmania – Galvanised Steel Fire Tank Warranty

Effective Date: 1st July 2025

Tankworld Tasmania steel water tanks are purpose-built for fire protection use in Tasmania. Our tanks are manufactured from high-quality Australian steel and engineered to withstand tough environmental conditions — but like all outdoor infrastructure, correct installation, protection, and maintenance are essential.

Important Notice:
This tank is not suitable for drinking water use. It is not certified or intended for the storage of potable (drinking) water. Use for drinking water will void this warranty and may result in health or regulatory consequences.

1. Product Specification

This tank is constructed using Custom Blue Orb® profile steel, a Lysaght-registered profile engineered specifically for curved applications like water tanks.

2. Warranty Period

Steel Fire Tanks:
3-year warranty from the date of delivery against defects in workmanship under normal use.

Fittings (inlet strainer, overflow, outlet, and ball valve):
1-year manufacturer’s warranty from the date of delivery.

Material Warranty – BlueScope Steel:
The base steel may be eligible for a material warranty from BlueScope, subject to their terms. To maintain this, customers must follow BlueScope’s maintenance guidance (see TB-04) and may register at warranties.bluescopesteel.com.au.

3. Warranty Coverage

This warranty covers:

  • Defects in materials and workmanship under normal use
  • Structural integrity when installed in accordance with Tankworld Tasmania guidelines

4. Warranty Exclusions

This warranty does not apply where any one or more of the following is a substantial contributing cause of the defect, failure, or deterioration:

  • The tank is relocated from its original installed position
  • The base is not constructed using 7mm compacted crushed bluestone, boxed in and extending at least 400mm beyond the tank
  • Installed on fresh concrete without a protective membrane layer
  • Erosion, ground movement, subsidence, or improper base preparation causes site instability
  • Pipework or valves are unbraced or installed in a way that applies stress to the tank wall
  • Outlets or ball valves are installed below ground
  • Dissimilar metals (e.g. copper, brass, stainless steel) are connected directly to the tank without insulating materials. All connections must be isolated with appropriate gaskets or sleeves to prevent galvanic corrosion
  • The tank is installed within 1000 metres of a saltwater coastline unless protective measures are approved by Tankworld Tasmania in writing
  • Maintenance is neglected (see Section 6)
  • Any abuse, physical modification, or external impact causes failure
  • Cosmetic changes such as fading, discolouration, or surface oxidation occur — these are considered normal weathering
  • Damage caused by environmental conditions such as extreme or severe weather, flooding, or other acts of nature
  • Damage resulting from unauthorised repairs, modifications, or vandalism
  • Improper handling during customer installation (see Section 5)
  • The tank is modified or altered in any way without prior written approval from Tankworld Tasmania
  • Fittings not supplied or approved by Tankworld Tasmania are attached to the tank
  • Excessive water pressure or suction is applied to the tank or its outlets
  • A sustained or temporary load is applied to the roof of the tank, including standing, sitting, climbing, or placing objects on it
  • The tank is used to store substances other than ambient-temperature rainwater for fire protection, including greywater, wastewater, or chemicals
  • External damage caused by tree roots, vermin, insects, tools, machinery, falling objects, or abrasive contact
  • A defect is not reported within 7 days of discovery, or the tank is not made available for inspection within 28 days of notification

5. Installation & Use Requirements

To maintain warranty coverage:

  • The tank must be tied down upon delivery and must not be stored on its side
  • The tank must not be moved after installation
  • Overflow and inlet capacity must be balanced
  • Overflow must be piped away from the base to prevent erosion
  • Outlets and valves must be installed above ground and fully braced
  • Inlet and outlet plumbing must not apply force or torque to the tank wall

6. Maintenance Requirements

All tanks, especially those installed near coastlines or in dusty or industrial environments, must be regularly cleaned to remove dirt, salt, and debris buildup.

  • Inspect connections and tank surfaces periodically for signs of wear or corrosion
  • Failure to maintain the tank in accordance with BlueScope’s guidelines (see Technical Bulletin TB-04) may void the material warranty
